We saw something special in this 16th century house — a quiet kind of beauty waiting to be revealed. With colour on the walls, linen on the tables and candlelight flickering, it’s become the cosy restaurant it was always meant to be. Settle in, unwind, and let our team look after you with seasonal dishes, locally sourced ingredients, and a thoughtful selection of wines, spirits and cocktails from Essex and beyond.

BOOKING GUIDANCE
Over 10s - A cosy, romantic setting with a relaxed, grown-up atmosphere. We therefore welcome guests aged 10 and over.
Car sharing - Please car share where possible. Our car park can get busy if every guest brings a car.
Dress code - We kindly ask all of our guests to honour a smart casual dress code, or dress to impress. Please avoid overly casual attire, including base caps & tracksuits.
Booking timings - Please arrive at the time of your booking. We don't have a bar for pre-dinner drinks. When you book we give you a time for returning your table, but please check with your server on the day, as we may be able to accommodate you for longer than the time that was stated.
Taxis - The restaurant closes from 10pm in the evening. Please book a taxi in advance if you need one. We recommended FAREWAY on 01245 355 555 & FAST TAXI on 01245 801444.
Sample menus - Our online sample menus are created using freshly prepared food, so we may need to change your menu on the day due to availability or our seasonal menu may have changed.
Pets - While pets aren’t permitted, assistance dogs are always welcome.
Preferences - Whilst we’ll always consider preferences, we’re unable to guarantee specific table locations.

Life’s hard right now and its made some people feel anxious, grumpy or both.We’re here to give you a great time eating lovely fresh food and drink that we’re sourcing locally and preparing for your delight. When things go wrong with your food, drink or service, please stop and think. No one’s perfect - we are thankful to be open. Everyone took eating and drinking in restaurants for granted. If you want to get grumpy, please stay at home.
We’re foodies at heart and we provide a seasonal menu with a spine of freshly prepared, classic British dishes, complemented by a few more exotic influences here and there.
We love our food with fine wine (with over 20 choices by the glass or bottle chosen with great devotion to duty); glowing tiffany lamps; and a bar crammed with gins and malts. PLUS lots of pictures, cushions, genuine old beautiful furniture, fresh flowers, real wooden floors, spots to dine in the sunshine, nooks and crannies to eat in private and, of course, really nice people to look after you.
We don’t love TVs, gaming machines and anything generally average.
Our aim is to create a relaxed, friendly environment for people to meet for great food.
ACCESSIBILITY - Our restaurant, including the toilet, is on one floor, but we are not adapted for wheelchair access. We have a few short steps around the restaurant including a small step at our front door.
